Voula - Βούλα

Voula is a municipality in the Southern part of Athens, capital of Greece. The name Voula (Greek: Βούλα), translates literally to something like a "spot". Voula is a suburban town in southern Attica, and the second southernmost municipality in the Megalo Daktylio (Greater Ring [of Athens]).

It is located approximately, 20 km South of Athens center, SW of the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport and the Attiki Odos (numbers 6 and 62), NW of Cape Sounio and South of the Hymettus mountain. Voula is linked by road with Posidonos Avenue (GR-91) at the West, has the Southern end of Vouliagmenis Avenue to the center of Athens, and the Western end of the Varis-Koropiou Avenue to the Airport. The Northern part is linked with Public Transport by the Terminal station of Athens Tram to Athens. An organized beach lies to the West and one of the largest Athens hospitals, "Asklipieio", lies to the North.

The name of the municipality, ("Voula" - Spot), has been suggested to derive oddly from the 60s, when in order to reach "Vouliagmeni" you needed first to pass from Voula, and were spotted. The population was rural until the 1960s, at which time suburban housing began to emerge, and Voula later came to form part of the Athens Metropolitan Area. It is now a suburban residential area, characterised by high real estate prices and its proximity to the commercial area of Glyfada, at the southern end of the Athens Prefecture. It also borders the municipalities of Vari and Vouliagmeni. It is the most densely populated municipality in the East Attica Prefecture, at 2,905.7 persons/km² (2001 census population of 25,532).

In the 1980s, Vouliagmenis Avenue began extension from north of Voula, intersecting the road to Vari and Paiania. By the 2000s, in time for the Athens Olympic Games, the eastern half of the road linking to Paiania and the airport was widened, with two more lanes.
